    Artist Sonja Caywood was privileged to have grown up ranching the old-fashioned way – with a mess wagon, tents, teepees and a rope corral in the Bighorn Mountains on the Crow Indian reservation. Living so closely tied to land steeped in the history and spirit of the Cowboy and Native culture turned her into an artist at an early age. The love of that land inspires much of her art today. "I want my art to engage the viewer to stop and take in the beauty around us in this quickly changing place and time, to identify with our landscape in this slice of soon-to-be history."
    This Painted Pony is part of The Tribal Collection. It honors authentic Native American arts and heritage: Every August since 1904, Crow Agency, Montana, has held a fair designed to celebrate and preserve early Crow culture and customs. A summer destination for Native Americans from all over North America, it features a parade, rodeo, relay races, Native dancing, contests and colorful exhibitions of beadwork. American flags fly high above the teepee poles in honor of Crow soldiers who served in the American military. For over 100 years, this artist's family has lived as ranchers on the Crow Reservation, giving authority and authenticity to her artistic tribute to the Crow Fair.
    The Trail of Painted Ponies celebrates the magic of the horse as an artistic canvas, the rich culture of America, and the unique talents of independent artists. The artists behind this exquisite collection come from all different backgrounds, and the inspirational stories behind each design are as heartfelt as they are beautiful.
    The Trail of Painted Ponies announced that Westland Giftware wa no longer be reproducing Painted Ponies. Beginning in January 2010, Enesco became the exclusive manufacturer and distributor of The Trail of Painted Ponies figurines and other merchandise. The Westland molds were broken and all of these original Westland Ponies should become even more highly sought after, rare, and valuable.
    My photos are of the actual pony in this listing! Please consider these images as part of the description.
    I have looked this pony over carefully and can detect no obvious cracks or chips in it prior to shipping.  Please note that some ponies (particularly older ones)may have minor imperfections or show signs of touch-up, such as under-paints or over-paints (as most ceramic and some resin pieces do) that occurred during manufacturing, as each one is hand painted. Most painted pony boxes have shelf wear or the tag may be creased or slightly bent; this does not affect the pony in any way. The pony was displayed in a glass cabinet for my personal enjoyment;
